Gara Brass Bangle

Wearable Sculptures made by the Tribe of Odisha.
Each Shilpa bangle is a masterpiece of the 4500 year old traditional Dhokra technique.

The process begins with a hand sculpted clay core,layered with fine beeswax threads that the artisans twist and coil with rhythmic precision.
When the molten brass is poured, the wax vanishes,leaving behind a singular,unrepeatable metal sculpture.
Each mold is broken to reveal the metal within so no two bangles are ever identical.The slight imperfections and the raw,golden toasted hue of the brass are the hallmarks of a piece that has passed through fire and clay.
